Customer Rating: Summary: Dog Alone time Comment: My dog is recovering from separation anxiety and we are still working on her issues. This video appeared to be very entertaining for my dog and my mom's dog. They loved the noises especially the bird scenes. I won't say they even noticed the pictures, but definitely the sounds. I left the two dogs alone for about three hours while I worked in my garden. The dogs were not friends before this point, and when I came back inside, they were lying on the couch side by side asleep.. So I will say this had a very calming effect on them...
Customer Rating: Summary: It's a good idea, but... Comment: I ordered "Dog Sitter" for my pack to watch while I was at work (2 pomeranians and a 3-legged American Eskimo). All three dogs showed interest, but at different scenes.
There was a good variety of sights and sounds for stimulation (squirrels, birds, geese, various rodents, pigs, and even dog-riding monkeys)--and I give the video points for the fact there's "something for everyone." One of my poms became particularly excited during the rodent sequence when he heard the high pitched squeaks of mice. He actually ran behind the TV and barked to see if mice were hiding in the speakers.
However, this is not a DVD that will work for all dogs. Some dogs will LOVE it, some may get bored, and some may get whipped up into a frothy frusterated frenzy as they get excited but have nothing else to do but bark at the TV.
How your pup reacts to this video will depend on several factors:
1) your dog's temperment,
2) what excites your dog,
3) how much additional stimulation your dog gets.
If you have a high strung dog, do not get him/her this DVD.
It's a good idea to supervise a pup's reaction this DVD until you've seen how he/she has seen it a few times. Additionally, it's VERY important to make sure the pup has some good safe toys (ex - kongs and chew toys) to take his/her excitement out on when (or after) the video is playing. Otherwise it will provide more frusteration than entertainment as your dog will not have an outlet for his/her new-found excitement.
Other than that, I think "Dog Sitter" is a great idea and a decent product. If nothing else, it's amusing for us pet owners. :)
Customer Rating: Summary: oh goodNESS. Comment: okay, so i will agree that this stimulates dogs. oh, how it stimulates them. i was under the impression that it is designed to be something that keeps them from ripping through the house when i'm busy. it is called 'dog sitter', after all, so how silly of me to assume that's what it is for.
when our package arrived, i immediately took it out and popped it in the dvd player. my oldest watched for about two minutes and then she was off. i've never seen her so wound up. she was running from the back door all the way through the dining and living room to the front door and stopping only to bark and make some howling noise i've never heard at the television.
it's cute, i suppose, because my baby is only eight pounds, but there's no possible way i'd want that going on when i'm not here and it's not good for her to be so excited and stressed over a simple dvd. i can't imagine what i'd have come home to if i'd just left it running. it took twenty minutes to calm her down after less than fifteen of this thing playing.
i'd love to know what sort of subliminal messages are really in this. is it telling dogs to behave like maniacs? because that is the only response i got from my baby.
