Cuora trifasciata

Cuora trifasciata is a species of turtle native to Southeast Asia, known in English as the Golden Coin Turtle or Three-striped/banded/lined Box Turtle.

The species is distributed in China (southern, Hainan and Hong Kong) , Lao People’s Democratic Republic , Vietnam, possibly also in northern Burma (Myanmar). In Hong Kong, the species is found in Tai Tam Reservoir area on Hong Kong Island.

Threats
The species is the important ingredient for making Chinese medicinal dessert Guilinggao so it is under theaten because of hunting. This is one of the most endangered turtle species according to a 2003 assessment by the IUCN.
